Focus on Desperate Burma and Very Provincial Italian Information

Yesterday I had a look at the most influential European Press...Der Spiegel, The Economist, El Pais, Die Zeit, The Guardian, The Independent, Libération, International Herald Tribune, just to mention a few...ALL extensively covered the Burmese tragedy emphasizing it as much as the earthquake which stroke China.

Instead, none of the main Italian newspapers gave due relevance to the Burma events (and very few to the tremendous Chinese earthquake). Not one single news from Burma on the first pages!! This shows once again how provincial and decaying this poor country is. Main headlines to be found in LaRepubblica, Corriere della Sera, La Stampa, Il Giornale...were all concerned with low profile internal security issues, emblematic news from the garbage-covered Neaples and similar ones.

Doubtless the italian information quality fits (and mirrors) the italian people standard, certainly one of the lowest existing nowadays in Europe.

While small scale criminality and some roma-made robberies are the focus of the italian worries, large scale criminality (the well known italian mafia) acts undisturbed. Not only: it rules over the country.
